𝟰𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 (𝗦𝗢𝗠𝗘) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝘁𝘀 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 | 𝟭𝟲-𝟭𝟴 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 | 𝗞𝘂𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗸
[𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮] - Kuching continued to be the centre of regional energy collaboration as PETRA successfully hosted six strategic consultations with ASEAN Member States, Dialogue Partners, and international organisations including Japan, the United States, Russia, ADB, IEA, and IRENA.
Key topics and outcomes included:
30th EAS ECTF Meeting – Emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainable biofuels and renewable energy deployment, with strong input from Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the U.S.
26th SOME-METI Consultation – Strengthened low-carbon cooperation through the AJEEP initiative and groundwork laid for the APAEC 2026–2030 framework.
3rd ASEAN-ADB Energy Dialogue – Progress on the ASEAN Power Grid and ADB’s 2025–2026 work plan focusing on clean energy transition and sustainable infrastructure via innovative financing.
16th SOME-Russia on Energy Consultation – Launch of the ASEAN-Russia Capacity Building on Energy Statistics (ARCS) project and discussion on future collaboration in oil, gas and nuclear energy.
16th SOME-U.S. on Energy Consultation – Review of progress under the ASEAN-U.S. Energy Work Plan, including the Smart Power Programme and power grid connectivity studies, along with plans for LNG infrastructure security.
IEA & IRENA Dialogues – Global insights shared through the Southeast Asia Energy Outlook 2025 and latest renewable energy trends to support ASEAN’s clean energy transition.
Malaysia’s leadership as Chair of the 43rd SOME reflects its strong commitment to driving regional energy security, innovation and a sustainable energy future for ASEAN.
